Age Concern New Zealand welcomed the opportunity to submit feedback on the recommendations from New Zealand's
fourth Universal Periodic Review.
Age Concern New Zealand supports recommendations to:
- Ensure older people are represented in inter-ministerial human rights mechanisms
- Strengthen welfare measures for low-income households
- Address existing inequities and disparities in areas such as health
- Address gender and ethnic pay gaps
- Take a human rights-based approach to housing to promote access to housing and reduce homelessness
- Strengthen mechanisms to detect, report and prevent elder abuse in all settings, including care settings
- Reduce discrimination and strengthen support for kaumātua, older people with disabilities, and older people who identify with any diverse cultural and/or rainbow communities
