Marie Jardine

PhD Candidate
University of Auckland

Marie Jardine is a PhD candidate at the University of Auckland, supervised by Dr Anna Miles and Dr Jacqui Allen.  Marie would like to share that swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) in older adults are not caused by ageing itself.  Her presentation highlights that community-living older New Zealanders with medical history associated with dysphagia presented with abnormal screening assessment scores for swallowing problems and nutrition risk.  The takeaway message is that older adults who report difficulties swallowing should be assessed and not ignored based on age.

Marie has also presented her PhD research in Australia, the USA and Japan.
