Dermot Whelan

Age Concern Kapiti

Dermot Whelan and Age Concern Kapiti are midway through a 3-year project, partly funded by the Kapiti Coast District Council, the purpose of which is “to increase social connections among older people/koroua or kuia in Kapiti.”  The Age Concern Kapiti presentation will focus on the academic research conducted by Massey University to help us with the project and the work being done to foster strong intergenerational links among the old and the not-so-old on the Kapiti Coast.

Dermot came to New Zealand in 1976 to follow the first Irish rugby tour here. He intended to stay for 2 years, but he’s still here!
