Wellbeing story
Providing practical help and reassurance
Joan is in her 90s and, while she remains active and alert, her desire for independence and self-sufficiency now exceeds her real capacity to be able to live this way. This has been a great source of anxiety for her son who lives overseas.
Age Concern Havelock North has stepped in to help and one of our staff has been working with Joan. Our staff member has helped her come to terms, albeit reluctantly, with the reality of her circumstances and has arranged caring callers, who keep a discreet watch over Joan and alert the relevant services when the need arises. This practical help has greatly improved Joan’s quality of life, also bringing relief and reassurance to her son.
