Donate / Bequest

We depend on community support to help serve older people's needs. This page suggests ways you can support Age Concern, nationally or locally.

Donations

Many people like to donate to good causes in their community, whilst others prefer to support a national charity. With Age Concern you get the choice, with opportunities to donate to your local Age Concern or Age Concern New Zealand.

  • Local Age Concern Councils have charitable status and are independently incorporated. Support the Age Concern in your community by making a one-off or regular donation or participating in local fund-raising events or street appeals (where available).
  • Age Concern New Zealand depends on donations, bequests and grants to continue its work. We are a not for profit, voluntary, registered charity (Charities Commission number CC10939).

All donations over $5.00 are receipted and are tax deductible.

Bequests

You can keep on helping Age Concern, even after you've gone. For increasing numbers of older people, making a bequest to Age Concern through their wills is a way to continue supporting our vital work.

To quote one supporter:

Sadly, I now have no family left who can benefit from my estate so I want it to go to good causes that I can rely on. I know that Age Concern will use my legacy wisely to help older people get the most out of life... It’s also good to know that even after I’ve long gone, in a way I’ll still be supporting one of my favourite charities.
- Mrs Maureen Ramsay, a supporter of Age Concern England.

Local or national

Many people like to see the money they leave in their will go to local good causes, whilst others prefer to support a national charity. Age Concern gives you the choice.

Age Concern councils located around the country and Age Concern New Zealand are not-for-profit charities that rely on community support.
Local Age Concern councils would be very happy for legacy gifts to go towards their work in your community.

Age Concern New Zealand works for all older people through national services, information and health and welfare awareness programmes. It coordinates vital national programmes including Elder Abuse and Neglect Prevention services and Accredited Visiting services for lonely and socially isolated older people.

Make a bequest

There are several ways you can make a gift to Age Concern in your will:

  • The simplest form is by leaving a residue gift. After providing for your family, you can confirm that you want to leave part or all of what is left of your estate to charity
  • By leaving an agreed percentage of your estate
  • Or by leaving a specific gift. This could be an amount of money, real estate, jewellery, shares, or any such other gift you nominate.

Your will – checklist

  • Your Will should state the details of your legacy, whether it’s a set sum or a share of your estate.
  • To avoid confusion, a Will should state clearly the full name, address and Charities Commission number of the charity being remembered. In the case of Age Concern the details will depend on whether your gift is to support directly the national work of Age Concern New Zealand, or the local work of a particular Age Concern. Your solicitor will advise you.
