Wellbeing story

Finding solace

Marion had been using Age Concern Wairoa’s services for a short time when she was diagnosed with a rapidly progressing terminal illness.

We supported Marion though historical trauma issues, monitored her health needs, and ensured she had enough assistance to remain at home. We also guided the family through the application process for Te Puni Kokiri’s Whānau, Innovation, Integration and Engagement Fund.

The family was able to pull together and support Marion. They were able to spend quality time with her and talk about the things that mattered to them all. Marion made her own decisions about the future for her whanau within the Whanau Ora process and we continued to support the whanau with grief counselling after Marion died.
